“Let the children come unto me,” said Jesus.

Godly Play is available for children ages 3-12 during our corporate worship time on Sunday.  At the beginning of worship the children join the adults in the worship space before being invited to go up to the 3rd floor where their lesson takes place. The children then rejoin the adults during the Eucharist.

"… in particular, we are all invited - summoned, actually - to discover, through following Jesus, that this new world is indeed a place of justice, spirituality, relationship, and beauty, and that we are not only to enjoy it as such but to work at bringing it to birth on earth as in heaven"

Simply Christian

Godly Play is a curriculum for ages 3 to 12 to experience the God of Abraham in the desert, learning the 10 Best Ways to live, to the parables in the Gospels. It was developed by Jerome Barryman, an ordained, Episcopal Priest, who moved his family to Italy in the mid 1970's to study the Montessori Method of childhood development under Sofia Cavaletti. Out of that experience and his theological training, he created Godly Play.

What is incredible about Godly Play is that it was created to engage the child's sense of wonder through responses spoken and unspoken; the lesson materials are visual, tactile and multi-dimensional to engage the child in the sense of play.  The children have the opportunity to come close to God as God comes close to them.

The children experience mini church with liturgical underlay on their alter, a lit candle inviting the Lord's presence, a crèche of the Holy Family, a liturgical wall calendar, story time in a circle on the rug, followed by wondering and response through crafts or just playing or simply being present and closes with Feast time (mini Eucharist of goldfish and water or juice) then dismissed with a blessing to return to corporate worship.

God said,
“We need to become like children to enter the Kingdom of heaven.”

Babies & Toddlers
Childcare is available for babies to toddlers up to three years old also on the 3rd floor off the main room where our children have Godly Play.  Parents are asked to accompany children up at the appointed time during the service and then if they are not yet walking to go up before Eucharist and pick them up to come back down and participate.

Notes for Parents
If your child is going to Godly Play or Childcare during corporate worship you will need to sign them in.
The sign-up sheet will ask for:

  • Child's name & your name
  • Your cell phone number
  • Please notify the volunteers if your child(ren) have any ALLERGIES.  Thank you!
Please make sure you leave your cell phone on and switch it to silent or vibrate. If we are unable to calm a child within 10 minutes or are experiencing unruly behavior we will contact you for your help and if you are not responding to a call or text by our volunteers we will send one down and retrieve you.

Child Safety
Our church policy is that we love and respect everyone and we have a zero tolerance policy for any abuse.  All of our volunteers and those paid who teach, help and watch our children have been trained on our church safety policies and have been interviewed by our Priest and head of Children's Ministries as well as have all had background checks by paid professional services.
